The Artwork My Paintings are all about light. I have always had a fascination with shiny, sparkly things, the effects of oil on water and metallic colours. In my days in fashion design I earned the name ‘Magpie' for my insistence on adding something shiny to every design whether it needed it or not! This work with textiles has given me a love of surface interest & I often incorporate textures such as sand, shiny beads & shells into the paintings. Much of my inspiration comes from the sea. As a child I was never happier than when walking on a sandy beach collecting shells and tiny jewelled pieces of glass worn smooth by the sea. I loved to swim in the ocean and watch the light bouncing off the moving surface of the water and listen to the surge of the waves. Many years later I fulfilled my mermaid dreams when I ventured beneath the waves during a holiday to the Caribbean. I discovered a whole new world of coral reefs and scuba diving became a passion and a rich source of inspiration for my artwork. This fascination with the sea and it's many moods continues to this day and is reflected in much of my work. My paintings have been sold to clients as far away as Canada, Scandinavia and the Caribbean as well as the UK.
About Me I originally trained as a fashion designer at the University of the Arts London ( London College of Fashion) & went on to have a successful career in fashion design. My designs for prints & embroideries have been seen in many high street stores around the world. I believe my work in fashion has given me a good understanding of colour and an ability to envisage how a painting will look in an interior setting.I have in recent years retired from the fashion business and now fulfil a long held desire to paint professionally. I now work from a small studio in West London. |
