I was born in Caerphilly, South Wales in 1961 and amongst my memories of education & childhood I remember enjoying art and recall winning prizes in competitions for creating posters and designing a Christmas card. However, I also remember my disappointment when I was discouraged from taking Art & Technical Drawing as subjects for exams. My career then took a very different path commencing with 7 years service with the RAF in Air Traffic Control. In time, it also took a back seat to married life & bringing up my two lovely sons.
Many years later at the age of 39 I gave up my career and returned to full time education to study Art & Design. Creating, and particularly painting again was a very real personal and emotional awakening for me and just the beginning of what I hope will be a long journey.
During the past 8 years much of my collection of work has been dominated by my portraiture in Acrylic. These bold, graphic & colourful portraits of today€s woman have been commercially successful for me. However the portraits are constantly evolving and are just a small part of a much wider body of work these days.
More recently I have enjoyed abstract work and have developed a collection of paintings inspired by fluids and their movement. There is also my series of semi-abstract floral paintings, which use contrast as their main feature and bring me much pleasure in their creation. One of my favourite subjects in this past year (2007/2008) has been Love & Romance and my collection of semi-abstract paintings inspired by Lovers has sold across the world to private collectors in Europe, USA and the Far East. My love of all things €romantic€ and particularly old black & white movies has fed & inspired this series and this will become more evident later this year!
My most recent collection of paintings is a series of colourful abstracts born from a love of stained glass and with inspiration from all things Art Nouveau. In this series I am exploring how the ever changing seasons colour my world whilst reflecting on my belief that colours fill us not only on a visual level but on an emotional level too. We don€t just see colours but we feel them and express them too. Take a look at my new work and I hope these creations bring colour to your world too.
