Personal information:
I began working in Advertising, specifically graphic design
and in 1994 to move to London, where I studied illustration and later to
studied a post graduate course at the London Institute of Printing, where I
focussed my illustration in screen-printing. I lived in London for 10 years
working in both aspects of design and illustration.
More recently I have been working freelance under the name
of CutGraphics and I am now wanting to expand into the illustration/art and web
design/digital markets.
Influences:
As a young boy living in York, with the rich History of the
GNER and the National Railway Museum obviously influenced my work. The GNER
posters of Tom Purvis are still a point of reference for me. This style lends
itself very well to my graphics and screen-printing training.
Other influences include comic illustrator Dave Mckean,
photographer Joel Peter Witkin and Artist Joseph Cornell.
My current work:
Lately I have tried to get access to screen-printing
facilities, unable to do so I have tried to re-create the screen-printed look
using original sketches, a computer and vivid bold colours. I see computers as
merely a tool to get to your desired outcome and with these series of prints I
believe that I have achieved this.
