I am a practicing architect and self taught artist. I rediscovered painting following my return to Yorkshire after 10 years living in London and work predominantly in acrylic, sometimes mixed with charcoal and ink. My work focuses on portraiture and semi abstract narratives, united by a bold use of colour and form.
All of my portraits are produced using only a palette knife and focus on colour and texture to try and capture feeling and character beyond representation. My semi abstract work is heavily influenced by my experience of cities and focus upon narrative concepts of community, identity, isolation and accountability. I am also interested in space, perspectives, dynamics and movement and how these can be represented through composition and form.
