Cross stitch is a form of embroidery in which x-shaped stitches are used to form a picture. Most of my work is executed on evenweave fabric called aida using strands of cotton floss. Projects are categorised by stitches per inch (usually 14,16 or 18). The more stitches per inch, the finer and more refined the finished piece is.
I took Creative Fabric Work as an SQV module when I was 15 years old as I was keen to try my hand at dressmaking. Some of my classmates had chosen to try cross stitch and I was so impressed with what they were achieving that I decided I wanted to try this in my spare time. Although convinced it was yet another passing phase, my mother bought me some materials and 17 years later I'm still at it!
Depending on the size and detail involved a piece can take anywhere between a month and a year to complete. All my work is hand stitched.
