My recent sculptural work is a departure from my painting, although my inspiration still comes from the same place, the Natural World.

The wire sculptures have evolved over time and now have three 'skins' of paper woven through the armature. The creatures are then completed with a final 'skin' of carefully prepared coloured, recycled printed papers and subtle text.

This sculpting style is labour intensive, partly due to the sourcing and ripping of small pieces of colour and text from the pages of magazines.
The creatures are not painted, they are built up with layers of ripped coloured printed paper, only the eyes are varnished.
The papers need to be of a certain thickness and not all papers work well.
Anybody reading a Sunday supplement (i.e. potential colour source) knows to keep it well out of my way!

This is an exciting time for me and I hope that my love of animals is apparent in each piece that I make, large and small.
Every creature is unique, even a commission of the same animal is different again and they always make me smile.

I hope they make you smile too...
